Lookbook - Aug 2012
Opening bustownmodern.com has been a dream in the making for more than a few years. Launching the site has, quite literally, been a labor of love. Those of you have have shopped with us over the years know that we work day + night and rarely take a break. I had so desperately been hoping for an amazing vacation with Paul this summer – I spent my winter making plans, checking flights, researching hotels in far away places. I dreamt of a beach in Fiji. The Rocky Mountains. The Louvre. Hell, an all inclusive in Mexico would have been fine. But alas, a vacation was not meant to be. While I had been buying for the site for over a year, we began full time work on the webstore in March – extra shoots, extra buying, extra this, extra that and, by June, it was apparent that flat grounds + concrete were the best I could hope to see this summer. With that in mind, I came up with the concept to pile on as many electric rainbow layers as I could and simply pretend I was on vacation all summer. I bought sunscreen that smells like bananas. I painted my toenails neon purple. I've been wearing good/bad tropical prints for months. I forced myself to work outside and EARN a tan. From that came the idea for our first look book – my concrete rainbow world. It's not Fiji, but it's home.
