Indigenous women are murdered at a rate 10 times higher than the national average and homicide is one of the leading causes of death for young Indigenous women (3rd for women age 10-24, 5th for 25-44) yet many Americans are unfamiliar with the prevalence of the issue. I was horrified when I first learned about the plight of missing indigenous women. The stories of women and girls literally disappearing, often times after being relocated within the Residential School System and never being seen or heard from again are horrifying and unacceptable.
